A couple weeks ago I went to the circus with my fam. WHICH WAS AWESOME. Seriously. I almost went again. If Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey’s DRAGONS comes near you, I highly recommend it.

The costumes, designed by Gregory A. Poplyk, were beautiful and a lot of fun (they also reminded me of He-man and She-ra for some reason). Comments are under the pics.

UntitledThe Ringmaster had a couple costumes, but this one is my fave.

UntitledThe Flying Caceres use a double trapeze. It’s craziness.

UntitledThere was a big section of martial arts/acrobatics with the Shaolins and the Kung Fu Kings. I didn’t take as many pictures, because I like the other stuff more.

this guy came out at the end. It was pretty sweet. It did breathe fire, too.

Me Monday: Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

365 Days, 365days, knoxville, Me Monday

188/365 hidden surpriseI am vain enough to admit that I don’t entirely love this picture of me (and by that I mean I think it’s kinda gross), but I also felt like it worked well for me today. This weekend was CRAZY. I’m talking digital-world, blog-wise. Oh my goodness, freshly pressed. You just rocked my little blog.

And it was as lovely surprise. Which, going back to today’s pic, is why I chose this one instead of the more flattering and artistic shots I was debating between.

On a family vacation a couple years ago, in the midst of a crazy day with brake trouble, tire trouble, and running back and forth around Knoxville, TN, I caught a glimpse of this fun little wall. So we turned around so I could get out and act silly. It was one of those happy little surprises God likes to throw your way that makes all the difference in your day.

And that’s a bit how I felt this weekend. Except more shell-shocked. Usually, it’s been a busy day on this thing if I get 30 people looking at it, and thanks to the magical people who pick the freshly pressed, I had over 5,000 hits on the blog this weekend. And that is CRAZY. And that is my God.

Thanks to everyone who visited and commented. I’ve read them all, even though I probably did not respond. You guys rock!

Looking Back at Alcatraz

Some of these I’ve already posted on here when I blogged about my SF trip (Linked here) in 2010, others are newly edited. I’m slowly going through my pictures and organizing/tagging them in a more efficient manner, so I’ve decided to edit more of the old pics and share about some of the places in more detail than I have in the past on here.

Enjoy a morning at Alcatraz!

Things I really liked:

– this sounds ridiculous, but I LOVED the gift shop. It was very well done. They’ve got a great marketing/merchandising team.
– that you could go along at your own pace. Helpful for someone like me, who tends to stop and take pictures of everything.
– the information on the audio tour was really interesting. I did get to the point where I was on information overload, but that was about the time I had planned to leave.

Thoughts on Alcatraz

I’m not sure I would just go again for the fun of it. I’d probably want to get more merchandise at some point though. I’d go again with a friend who hadn’t been. As much as I liked it, and I did, it’s not on my list of things to do next time I visit San Francisco.

Anyone else been there? What did you like?

::edit:: Freshly Pressed! I’M SO EXCITED! And shocked. And excited. So, welcome! Look around while you’re here and THANKS FOR VISITING!
